60The Great Pacific Garbage Patch
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is located in the Pacific ocean. It stretches from the coast of California all the way to Japan. Marine Biologists estimate for it to be twice the size of texas. In some places plastic can be up to 90ft deep. Marine Biologists estimate that 90% of the trash that is in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is plastic. The 3.5 million tons of floating trash is plastic. In some places there are already 6 times of plastic then platen which most fish rely on to survive out in the ocean. some marine animals think that floating trash or plastic is either jellyfish or other fish that they think are their food and rely on to survive! All that trash and plastic has cost the lives of many marine animals and birds. Now ask yourself how did all that trash and plastic end up in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Well its either dropped directly into water ways or drains and either end up in the Oceans which often end up in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch or rivers, lakes and streams from different states and countries. Most of the plastic in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch come from all over the world. So think again about littering! try to do the best you can to help all of those poor marine animals that are eating plastic and either getting sick or dying.
